I Wrote This When I Was Sick

This newsletter is going to be pretty brief. In short, these last two weeks have been an absolute blur between finishing up at my job, the holiday season, and working with every spare second I have on getting chapter one of the remake finished.

Which is why I find with great irritation that I’m sitting here writing this newsletter after spending the last 36 hours in bed from the flu. Too exhausted to keep my eyes open let alone get any work done.

So as I’m mere days away from the release date of TCOM’s remake, how close am I to finishing?

Pretty close. But I committed the cardinal sin of pushing off the hardest parts of the comic for last.

Maybe “pushing off” isn’t the right term here. I have been working on the hardest parts of the comic practically since I started working on the remake. The only problem is they’re two things I find incredibly difficult to do so it’s taken me a long time to finish them.

Those two things are a big establishing shot and a two-page spread. The establishing shot opens the whole story up with a view of the capital city. The two-page spread is how I’m doing my lore dump on the setup of the world.

Architecture and landscaping are not my strong suits, which is why I’ve probably started and restarted the establishing shot about a half dozen times now. And as for the lore page…I have a vision of what I’d like it to look like in my head, but for some reason my hand is just incapable of bringing it to reality, which has been really frustrating.

So what am I going to do?

Well, as of the time of writing this it’s a mere 4 and a half days till New Years so…I guess I’m just going to do my best and hope it all works out. When my brain can’t focus on those hard parts I’ve been refining the work I have finished and getting everything converted to a webcomic format for Webtoon and Tapas. Though I think this time I should really look into posting the comic in its comic page format somewhere, too.

But, honestly, that’s all I have for now. I haven’t had the time to work on any extra projects these last two weeks since the comic has taken precedence. And after losing an entire workday I’m hoping to get back on track now that I’m able to keep my eyes open. So that’s where I’ll leave you all for now.

Be on the lookout New Year’s Day for my comic dropping on sites like Webtoon and Tapas. In my next newsletter I’ll report on that, any projects I’ve worked on, and what progress on chapter two is looking like.

Till then, thanks for reading.

When Life Gives You Lessons... Issue #24 General Updates Two weeks, we’ve got to stop meeting so suddenly like this. I’m never ready for it anymore. Another blink and you missed it two weeks have flown by, and once again I find myself a little disappointed at my progress with The Chosen One’s Mentor. But, two weeks from now my time will have freed up a lot so I’m hoping for a final sprint at the end of the month to hit that deadline of a January 1st release date for chapter one. Granted, the...

Slow but Steady Issue #23 A Change of Pace Once again, two weeks have flown by. Unfortunately, this time it’s not because I’ve been working on the comic with laser focus. No. I started my regular job. And, as I feared, a regular job sure does sap one’s energy to work on anything after getting home from a long day…. That’s not to say I’ve done nothing. But I’ve certainly accomplished far less than I’d hoped. The need to work a regular job again has definitely thrown a wrench in my estimated...

The Fruits of My Labor Issue #22 What I’ve Been Up To Wow, two weeks go fast when you’re working hard. And what a two weeks of work it’s been. I’ve been plugging away at the comic day in and day out (when I wasn’t knocked out from a recent flu shot) and, as of the time of writing this, I can say that 1/5th of the comic pages are now completely finished. 1/5th may not sound like much, especially with the New Year deadline looming, but the reality is I’ve been taking my time to make sure this...
